Disaster Relief Donations

General Disaster Relief Fund

The North American Mission Board, along with state Baptist convention leaders, has taken the lead in organizing Southern Baptists to respond to disasters. They contribute manpower, ministry, and financial help during floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, earthquakes, and urban disasters. NAMB uses Disaster Relief donations for meeting human needs as a priority and of sharing the Gospel and/or starting churches as part of NAMB's overall disaster relief ministry once these priorities are met. Donations to this fund may be used for multiple disaster responses as needs arise.

Operation NOAH Rebuild Fund (Long-term Rebuild Fund)

Donations entered into this fund will be distributed to the three-year program (August 2006-August 2009) in the New Orleans area that plans to rebuild 1,000 homes and 20 churches.

Frequently Asked Questions–Donations

1. Will a donation to NAMB Disaster Relief allow you to present the gospel?

All of our disaster relief volunteers are trained to evangelize sensitively during a disaster and look for opportunities to share the gospel with hurting people. In addition, we have a chaplain assigned to every feeding unit giving pastoral care to people who are waiting to be fed. We care about the physical needs of people who have been affected by the disaster, but ultimately we care more about their eternal soul.

2. Is my donation tax-deductible?

The North American Mission Board is designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and your gift will be tax-deductible.

3. Will I receive a receipt for my gift?

You will receive an immediate gift confirmation via E-mail (provided you give a correct E-mail address) and will also receive a receipt through the mail.

4. Do you accept gifts of stock?

Yes, we do accept gifts of stock. Please E-mail us at disastergifts@namb.net for detailed information.

5. What if I have a problem with my online donation?

Please E-mail us at disastergifts@namb.net if you have a problem with your donation and we will assist you.

6. Is the donation site secure?

An SSL secure server system is used, which is a secure, encrypted system.

7. What percentage of my gift will go to administrative costs?

When you give to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, 100% of what you give goes directly to disaster relief efforts so your donation goes further. We do not pay salaries or overhead out of those funds.

8. What percentage goes directly to the victims?

We do not give victims money, but provide in-kind relief to victims in areas affected by disaster—including feeding units, shower and laundry units, mud-out and chain-saw units. Victims receive these services through trained disaster relief volunteers. Were it not for the presence of these volunteers, and the fuel and phone costs that allow them to be present, the victims would not receive these crucial services.

9. Do you pay credit card fees if I donate online?

We do pay credit card fees, but the funds do not come from your donation. Administrative costs are paid by NAMB’s operating budget, funded by the Cooperative Program.
