How God is at work in Hunger Ministry

One lady asked if she could volunteer for the Feed the Hungry ministry on Thursdays.  She started coming a couple of months ago.  She then started attending the church where the ministry takes place and a couple of weeks ago she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized.  She is now sharing with her mother and we are praying that she will also come to know Christ.

HeartLand Hands Impact Center, a mission extension of HeartLand Church in Southaven, Miss., is “impacting the community one family at a time.”

“We are serving over 160 families a month with food boxes for low-income families that just don’t have enough income to meet their needs. HeartLand Hands is truly meeting people where they are, taking them by the hand and walking with them to where they need to be,” said Tanya Gill, director of the center.

“So many of the people that we serve are hurting and looking for answers in life. We take every opportunity to share the love of Christ with them and take time to listen to their situations and needs. Many of our clients have attended our church. Some are coming on a regular basis and have become members of our church,” Gill said.

First Baptist Church, in Poplar, Montana, is the hub of the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation in the northeast corner of Montana. Pastor Vance Thomas reports, “We will average 400-500 hot meals a month. More in the winter time when the temp will drop to 40 below zero. We still bring in 40 to 100 kids twice a week to feed them hot food and the Word of God.

“This ministry is so successful that 75% of the salvations here at FBC have come through this Children’s Ministry.  And whole families have come to know the LORD because of this ministry.”

“God has blessed FBC and me as through these ministries we have seen God’s Hand at work here. I pray we will continue to be sensitive to the needs of His people with a servant’s heart.”

“...we hosted a large church service and lunch at the Veteran’s Administration. We did an altar call and three people came forward. The guests were mostly homeless veterans recently taken off the streets, but one of those who came forward was an employee who was the event coordinator!”

A gentleman and his family were moving to Homestead, Florida for his new job and saw the office open at the travel center. The gentleman was asking only to have his family of five fed – nothing for himself. He had miscalculated the increase in gas prices and had not eaten for 3 days. Because of these funds, he and his family were able to receive both physical and spiritual food.

Most men who come to Penfield have irregular eating habits and poor dietary intake. Recovering from substance abuse requires structure and discipline in one’s life, including a balanced diet. We are very blessed to be able to provide that for the men who come through our program. Through your support and our hunger ministry efforts the Spanish mission has grown so that we are assisting them in finding a much larger meeting space at a new location. We plan to find new leadership and start a new Spanish mission at our church location. We were blessed with 25 professions of faith and 11 baptisms this past quarter.

At a time when food banks are struggling to keep their doors open and have product to distribute, the Lord continues to bless us as we seek to meet the needs of a growing number of people. We are continuing to see more people come to our food ministry for help. We have a good number of people, who, by the time they pay their mortgage and car payment they have no money left for food. We have been able to touch 20,000 lives this last quarter through our Compassion Ministry. We also recorded 35 professions of faith and 12 baptisms.

It was so awesome to see the power of God move as we were able to feed so many people. The lines have been long enough to reach around the block on 19th Street. We had 1,442 evangelistic encounters.

There were four guys that we gave food to and they were very appreciative.  They gave one guy named Cornbread something to eat and he was in bad shape.  He came again and we invited him to church and he kept coming.  He now has gotten a haircut and is coming to church regularly.  He is close to accepting Christ.  It is great to observe a definite change in these men's lives both physically and spiritually.
