• Innovators

This is where the workplace collides with missions! As an Innovator, you will work in a secular summer job (usually 40 hours a week) somewhere in the U.S. or Canada. Earn money and represent Jesus to your co-workers—then help a local missionary or church planter when you’re not working (usually 8-10 hours a week).

    Qualifications:

    • Be a committed and maturing Christian
    • Be willing to verbally share the gospel with others
    • Be done with your freshman year of college before you go
    • Be available to serve the entire term of service (lengths vary)

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How do I apply?

    1. Complete an online application.
    2. Submit four personal references.
    3. Give consent for a criminal background check.

    How much does it cost?

Innovators are self-funded college missionaries, providing for their own expenses from their employment. However, the North American Mission Board will provide supplemental insurance.

Do I have to be Southern Baptist?

No. Candidates must belong to a like-minded, non-Southern Baptist evangelical church, and have a connection to the Southern Baptist Convention through participation in a Baptist Collegiate ministry or an SBC church while attending college.

How do I choose a project?

Figuring out where to serve is part of the adventure! Start by praying about it and being willing to say “yes” to whatever project God leads you to—before you make up your mind about where you want to go.

Think about your gifts, passions and life experiences. Do they line up with the needs of any specific projects? Would you be able to get excited about and stay committed to the work that needs to be done there?

Also, think about the location of the project. Do you want to serve in a major city with a great diversity of people and cultural experiences? Or do you feel God may be calling you to serve in a suburban or even rural area?

You will be asked to list your top three choices for projects on your application. Our staff will work with you and the field partners to place you in a project that matches your specific gifts and interests.

This pathway of service is designed for students who desire a hands-on experience of taking their Christian witness to the work place.
