    There are 10+ million people in the US who do not speak English.  Over 23% of the population of the largest US states (CA, TX, NY, FL, IL) cannot speak English well or at all. That represents over 25 million citizens. I t is not that they don’t want to learn…they just can’t.  They don’t have a teacher, they don’t have the funds for taking classes, and/or they cannot find a convenient class time.  You can help!  

    1. Pray for those in your sphere of influence who struggle with English. 
    2. Meet with your pastor or church staff to discuss the needs for helping people with language in your community. 
    3. Invite your friends and neighbors who struggle with speaking English into your home.  They need to learn by speaking with English speakers. 
    4. Take a class in how to teach English. 
    5. Sit in on tutoring classes, it is easier to teach English than you think. 

     

    Many people in your community need tutoring.  Whether it is children in an afterschool environment or adult community group, many people need help.  There are a large number of Baptist state conventions who offer assistance in learning how to prepare people to tutor others.  Please contact your state convention literacy representative to discover training opportunities and additional support.  Here are some videos that can assist you in your outreach.
