What is a Missional Church
A Missional Church is a biblically faithful and culturally appropriate church to the people that it is called to reach. “Missional” is a philosophical ministry framework not a particular ministry paradigm. A Missional Church could be Purpose Driven®, seeker sensitive, emerging, traditional, affinity, etc.

What is the Missional Network
The Missional Network is an online and relational community of ministry leaders connecting according to their chosen ministry approach. Network participants share dreams, files, ideas, and burdens to extend the reach of their works.

History of the Missional Network
The Missional Network was created at the request of the Missional Task Force. In late 2005, the North American Mission Board developed a task force of fourteen influential young leaders from across the United States and Canada. The task force’s members represented a diverse range of ethnicities and church paradigms. Early on in this engagement process it became apparent that age was not the defining issue that united these leaders. Instead it was their shared calling to create Missional churches in the ministry areas that God had called them to reach. The task force became The Missional Task Force and met over a series of months to continue the dialogue. Among their many recommendations, the Task Force asked NAMB to create a relational community for Missional leaders to share files and ideas online and at multiple gatherings.

Missional Network Components

  • Missional Network Web Site: The Missional Network website will be a hub for idea sharing, file sharing, relating and coaching. The site will include paradigm specific forums centered on the Missional Matrix topics: Christology, Missiology, and Ecclesiology and tons of other great features to help Missional leaders connect and grow. The site is planned to launch Oct 2006.

  • Missional Round Tables: Hosted periodically by Missional Network members, Missional Round Tables are structured hour-long gatherings of Missional leaders to “group-think” around key challenges that face Missional leaders in their ministry efforts.

  • Network Regional Gatherings: Regional gatherings are hosted in cooperation with State Convention, College, and/or Seminary partners. They include “big idea” solutions to real-life ministry challenges and “practical applications” of these solutions in smaller break-out sessions and coaching clusters.

  • Missional Network National: The Missional Network National is an annual gathering of Missional leaders at the Southern Baptist Convention Annual meeting. At this gathering, attendees with connect with other network members, hear about network opportunities, and learn from nationally recognized thinkers.
