Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply?
- Complete an online application.
- Submit four personal references.
- Give consent for a criminal background check.
How much does it cost?
Most projects won’t cost you anything. Those that require funding are listed in the position description. The North American Mission Board provides travel expenses, a monthly honorarium for the student missionary and supplemental insurance.
Do I have to be Southern Baptist?
Some of the projects are available to students who are not Southern Baptists but are part of a like-minded, evangelical church. These are indicated on the opportunities list. However, non-Southern Baptist students who are accepted are responsible for their own travel expenses and honorarium, but will receive the supplemental insurance from NAMB.
How do I choose a project?
Figuring out where to serve is part of the adventure! Start by praying about it and being willing to say “yes” to whatever project God leads you to—before you make up your mind about where you want to go.
Think about your gifts, passions and life experiences. Do they line up with the needs of any specific projects? Would you be able to get excited about and stay committed to the work that needs to be done there?
Also, think about the location of the project. Do you want to serve in a major city with a great diversity of people and cultural experiences? Or do you feel God may be calling you to serve in a suburban or even rural area?
You will be asked to list your top three choices for projects on your application. Our staff will work with you and the field partners to place you in a project that matches your specific gifts and interests
