March 2010
This month in Kids4Christ, we will learn about missionary George "Jerzy" Ratz and his ministry to seamen who come in and out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We will also listen in as Jesus uses a story about a farmer planting seeds to illustrate people's reception to hearing the Word of God.
The March article for Kids4Christ is "Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Doing Right". This article appears in the Fall issue of Baptist on Mission. It is written by Larry McGlothlin of the State Royal Ambassador Committtee.
Mattthew 28:16-20: "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
It's clear; we are all called to make disciples. I don't know about you, but when it comes to making disciples, I'm not looking for a shortcut on how to accomplish the task. I realize that God works through many means and in different ways to empower us. Plain and simple, my job is to serve right here, right now as He sees fit and not question how He chooses to work through me or others. I'm committed to building disciples one boy and one man at at time doing whatever it takes using whatever means God provides. When I was a boy, my dad taught me that if anything is worth doing, then it's worth doing right. My interpretation of this is that he wanted me to approach any task with the mindset that I will do it to the best of my ability, and not rush through it to get it over with. His belief was and my belief now is, why bother if you're not willing to do a good job. If you're looking for a shortcut, then you're better off doing something else with your time. My dad was so instrumental in seeing to it that I was not a quitter. The house rule was if you started something, then you must see it through to the end.
These 3 beliefs (1) Don't question God's methods, (2) Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and (3) See whatever I start through to the end, have guided my life....
...When I read The Great Commission, there is no promise of simplicity. In fact, when I think about the path for most of our biblical models, the task was difficult and seeing the task to fruition required great faith, perservance, and self-discipline. Take-it-easy followers were not part of God's team. Let's not forget that building and preparing disciples is the first step to entering the mission field and is a vital piece to completing the mission. When it conmes to making disciples, let's remember that our mission field is right where we stand.
