On August 15, 2009, more than 100 pastors and leaders gathered for San Diego’s 2nd Annual Regional Day of Worship and Prayer. Thomas Bush, prayer ministry director for Vision San Diego and the San Diego Southern Baptist Association, describes the immediate impact of the event, and the implications for future ministry in San Diego.
San Diego churches and ministries are experiencing God’s gracious activity in our region, due in part to the heaven-focused prayers of more than 25,000 intercessors. 52 churches have been planted, hundreds of churches have been strengthened, and more than 8,500 volunteers have been mobilized to serve in San Diego.
In preparation for the fall season of ministry, pastors and leaders paused to worship and pray together during the 2nd Annual San Diego County Regional Day of Prayer and Worship.
Our theme was “Staying Strong in Ministry;” through worship and prayer, we invited the Lord to renew our passion for serving Christ. One of the Scriptures we focused on was Hebrews 12:1-3:
“Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.”
To culminate this session, the Lord’s Table was shared, first by pastors serving and praying God’s strength for each other, and later as pastors served the people together, symbolizing their oneness in serving all the people of the city.
Pastors and leaders also interceded for ministries representing Kingdom-building opportunities in our region. You can read more about these ministries, including specific prayer requests for each one, at www.visionsandiego.com/pray.
We invite you to pray for San Diego, that God’s sustaining strength would rest on our county’s pastors and leaders and for significant kingdom impact of Holy Spirit-fueled ministries.
