Equipped and Stepping Out in Faith
by Lynn Webb
Kassie Smith, a student at Midwestern Seminary, of Kansas City, Missouri, shared the Gospel with a young lady at a Louisville, Kentucky Crossover block party on June 20. This was her first evangelistic mission trip. On Monday, June 15, Kassie was reluctant to go out into the streets and dreaded intentional community evangelism. Throughout the week, however, as the Holy Spirit began to move in the lives of those she encountered, she became bolder and more confident in the power of the Holy Spirit and began sharing more each day.
On Saturday alone she led six people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. ICE training helped Kassie to achieve a spiritual breakthrough and she became a soul-winner for Jesus. It was so exciting to see someone you are working with and mentoring catch the evangelism bug; not only was she taught it, but she caught it! I was so proud of her. The transformation that took place between Monday and Saturday was nothing but a God thing, the truest form of the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
To sum it all up, I don't know what is more exciting, to win someone to Christ or see someone you have mentored lead someone to Christ. It all is a tremendous blessing of God's plan for our lives and for His kingdom. This kind of experience brings the Great Commission to life and shows what Jesus meant when He said, "Go therefore and make disciples..." That's what intentional evangelism training is all about, teaching people to prayerwalk, share the Gospel, lead lost people to Jesus, and mentor others to be soul-winners.
Before having ICE training, Kassie had not led anyone to receive Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. However, after completing the training and going out into the streets learning how to apply what she had learned throughout the week, she led approximately a dozen people to Jesus. It was a blessing to serve alongside this dear sister in Christ, and I'm excited about what God is going to do in and through her life.
