The Severity Of God-July 8, 2009
“Behold then the kindness and severity of God . . . ” (Rom. 11:22, NASB).
Thursday, July 9 – Seek understanding that God’s discipline is progressive, escalating in severity if we harden our hearts toward Him, remaining impenitent. Ask God to awaken us to the truth that God uses natural disasters and things such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, hail, and earthquakes in His discipline and judgment of sin.

“Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it” (Jer. 30:23-24, KJV).
Friday, July 10 – Plead for God to grip us with the truth that even though He is longsuffering and merciful there are dreadful consequences for apostasy. Seek help to understand the divine vengeance coming to those who do not seriously attend God’s warnings and glorify God by repentance and reformation. Beg God to grip us with the truth that He judges those who do not obey His word and He holds us accountable for our failure to comply with His standards.
“But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments . . . I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you . . . And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins” (Lev. 26:14-18, KJV).
Saturday, July 11 – Thank God that He sustains great affronts and injuries without immediately avenging Himself. Ask God to grip our hearts with His wrath against sin.
“Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off” (Rom. 11:22, NASB).
Sunday, July 12 – Ask God for men who will seek to know what He is communicating in the terrors, conflicts, and disasters in our nation and correctly instruct us in how to respond to God.
“If there is famine in the land . . . pestilence . . . blight or mildew . . . if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague or whatever sickness there is” (2 Chron. 6:28, NASB).
Monday, July 13 – Seek understanding that when God withholds His Word it discipline for our sin. Ask God for a fresh word from Him that would bring life and great conviction of sin.
“ . . . I will send a famine . . . of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander . . . they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it” (Amos 8:11-12, KJV).
Tuesday, July 14 – Pray to grasp that God can choose to destroy people who defy Him and refuse to repent when He calls them to return to Him. Seek understanding of God’s chastisements.
“For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall . . . compass thee round, and . . . shall lay thee even with the ground . . . because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation” (Luke 19:43-44, KJV).
