Revival And Money - July 29, 2009
“. . . You have hoarded wealth in the last days . . .” (James 5:1-4, NIV).
Thursday, July 30 – Ask God for mercy and forgiveness for our robbing Him of His glory by hoarding wealth instead of using His gifts to further His kingdom and help others. Ask God to rebuke us, bring us to conviction, and grant us a willingness to repent of this sin.
“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes . . . gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days” (James 5:1-4, NIV).
Friday, July 31 – Implore the Lord to deliver us from using money to satisfy our self-centered cravings that steal our desire for Christ and His Word. Beg God to help us see that the survival of our nation depends on our repentance from covetousness.
“The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity” (Luke 8:14, NASB).
Saturday, August 1 – Petition the Lord to instill in us that His reliability and reputation is at state when we misuse money. Ask God for His transforming power to renew our minds and hearts, that we may use money to show that He is our treasure, not possessions!
“So then, any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say good-bye to) all that he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:33, AMP).
Sunday, August 2 – Seek God to help us see that from His perspective, covetousness is a sin of a lack of love. Beg the Lord to incline our hearts to return toour first love and deliver us from the bondage of this sin.
“The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself” (Rom. 13:9, NIV).
Monday, August 3 – Entreat the Lord to help us see that forgetting Him is our greatest danger, and that prosperity can lead to pride that causes us to do so. Ask God to help us give Him His rightful place as Lord.
“When the LORD your God brings you . . . to give you . . . houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide . . . then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the LORD . . . ” (Deut. 6:10-12, NIV).
Tuesday, August 4 – Ask God to teach us that greediness is considered idolatry by the Lord. Beg Him to convict us that to hoard and spend only on ourselves is sinful. Petition Him to grant each of us a generous spirit.
“For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God” (Eph. 5:5, NASB).
Wednesday, August 5 – Beg God to help us understand that valuing and using money the way the world does betrays Him and robs Him of His glory. Ask Him to revive us and so transform our attitude about and use of money that we make sacrificial choices that magnify Him through generosity.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal” (Matt. 6:19-20, NASB).
