Impenitence And Severity-August 12, 2009
“Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent” (Matt. 11:20, NASB).
Thursday, August 13 – Plead with God to teach us that He makes nations who refuse His gracious call to repentance a monument of His destroying justice. Ask God to grip our hearts with the truth that when He relates to us it is always in holiness and that He deals radically with our sin. Beg God to give us ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church in North America.

“Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent” (Matt. 11:20, NASB).
Friday, August 14 – Implore God to help us see that those who are blessed by God will receive the most severe judgment if they remain indifferent to Him. Beg God to help us take to heart it was to the self-righteous orthodox people that He was speaking, because they are more repulsive to God than immoral or idolatrous people.
“And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee” (Matt. 11:23-24, KJV).
Saturday, August 15 – Petition the Lord to help us see that if we refuse to listen to the word of God and do what it says, the Lord’s anger will burn against us just as it did with Israel. Ask Him to help us see that nations in prior generations who did not repent were destroyed. Cry out to God for a willingness to repent.
"Go, inquire of the LORD for me and . . . all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us” (2 Kings 22:13, NASB).
Sunday, August 16 – Beg God to teach us that we must not assume that His coming to us is always for blessing but that it always involves a thorough accountability for our sin, and that He destroys cities of people who are filled with sin who refuse to repent.
“Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you want the day of the Lord? It is darkness and not light” (Amos 5:18, AMP).
Monday, August 17 – Seek under-standing that the day of the Lord will be a day of the execution of God’s judgment for God’s people and then for others.
“Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come” (Joel 1:15, KJV).
Tuesday, August 18 – Ask God to open our eyes and hearts to how desperate our need for revival is. Beg Him to teach us that if His blessings, warnings, and word are slighted, He has woes in reserve for us. (Matt. 11:21-22)
“Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4, NASB)
Wednesday, August 19 – Cry out to God to revive us, helping us to rend our hearts by His Word and Spirit.
“I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3, NASB).
