Self-Imposed Blindness-August 26, 2009
“ . . . You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times” (Matt. 16:3, NIV).

Thursday, August 27 – Cry out for understanding that our hardness of heart keeps us from seeing and interpreting the events of our day biblically. Ask God to help us see current events from His perspective, that we may be moved to repentance.

“being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart” (Eph. 4:18, NASB).

Friday, August 28 – Beg God to forgive our hardness of heart, indifference and spiritual blindness, that we may see the things over which we stumble.

“The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know over what they stumble” (Prov. 4:19, NASB).

Saturday, August 29 Seek forgive-ness for our indifference to the evidence of God’s judgment of our generation due to our rejection of Him. Beg God to cure our blindness by the illuminating power of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to open our eyes to His activity in our day and for grace to interpret the signs of the times.

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God . . . and their foolish heart was darkened” (Rom. 1:20-21, NASB).

Sunday, August 30 Ask God to teach us that people who have a rebellious heart, bent on backsliding, cannot apprehend the mind of God, even though it is plainly declared to them by the written word, God's prophets and providence. Beg God for spiritual illumination that would expose our sin.

“Hear now this, O foolish people and without understanding; which have eyes and see not; which have ears and hear not” (Jer. 5:21, KJV).

Monday, August 31 Entreat the Lord to help us realize that the signs of His coming explained in Matthew 24 will occur in one generation. Ask God to help us understand how vulnerable we are to false teaching and that Christ warns us of a great apostasy before He returns.

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. . . . When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled” (Matt. 24:11-34, KJV).

Tuesday, September 1 – Pray for a revival of our hearts that will restore the love relationship with Him, providing us with the only way to prepare for the end times.

“And they will say to you, Look! [He is] there! or, Look! [He is] here! But do not go out or follow [them]” (Luke 17:23, AMP).

Wednesday, September 2 Plead for the eye salve that would open our eyes to see ourselves as God sees us, that we may be brought to repentance. Ask God to open our eyes to the characteristics of the last days (apostasy, false teaching, mockery, war, and economic chaos).

“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see” (Rev. 3:18, KJV).
