Prayer Guide – Relationships And Revival - September 9, 2009
“Do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thess. 5:19, NASB)
Thursday, September 10 – Cry out for forgiveness for the divisive conflicts in the church of North America that quench His Spirit and dishonor God’s name. Ask God to show us the sinful behavior that hinders revival, and to help us understand that we cannot be right with Him and at war with other believers.
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: . . . A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Prov. 6:16-19, KJV).
Friday, September 11 – Petition the Lord to teach us that no fervor for discipleship or evangelism excuses our unloving behavior towards one another. Ask God to teach us that unbelievers coming to know Christ is tied to our love and unity. Beg God to cleanse us of unloving behavior.
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me . . . they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:21-23, KJV).
Saturday, September 12 – Entreat the Lord to teach us how serious unresolved anger, bickering and division is in His sight and to help us repent of it. Ask forgiveness for our grieving God’s heart, quenching His Spirit, and rejecting the Lordship of Christ by denying, ignoring, and minimizing damaged relationships. Beg Him to revive us.
“Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” (James 4:11-12, KJV).
Sunday, September 13 – Implore the Lord to strengthen us to embrace conviction and relational examination by Him. Ask Him to search our hearts and bring us to deep conviction for unloving attitudes towards others. Beg Him to help us take practical, biblical steps to deepen our fellowship and oneness.
“Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24, AMP).
Monday, September 14 – Beseech the Lord to help us take the initiative to reconcile with any believers to whom we have grown distant or cold.
“If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault . . . privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother” (Matt. 18:15, AMP).
Tuesday, September 15 – Beg God to give us a willingness to obey Him by putting on a heart of compassion, mercy, kindness, gentleness, and a humble temper that bears tirelessly with others.
“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Col. 3:12, NASB).
Wednesday, September 16 - Plead with God to help us understand that our relational barriers hinder revival in our land. Beg God to search out, cleanse, and remove these barriers to revival.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 Jn. 4:7-8, NASB).
