Resurgence Of Humility - September 30, 2009
“ . . . But I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:26-27, NIV).

Thursday, October 1 – Confess to the Lord that nothing can save us but the restoration of our lost humility which is the God-ordained relationship of the creature to his Creator. Ask God to help us apprehend our desperate need of humility and to help us return to Him.

“Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]” (Phil. 2:5, AMP).

Friday, October 2 – Seek forgiveness that God’s command to humble ourselves in His sight has been ignored and neglected in the church. Confess that our lack of humility is the root and explanation of our failures in the church. Ask God to restore the teaching of the importance of humility and of our dependence upon God alone.

"If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:26, NASB).

Saturday, October 3 – Plead with God to bring us to brokenness through a sense of our pride and its sinfulness. Ask God to help us make humility a special object of our prayers and practice.

“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matt. 20:27-28, KJV).

Sunday, October 4 Implore the Lord to help us understand that rebellious people have a high opinion of themselves and are often confident that they are walking in God’s ways. Ask God to test our hearts and make us the owner of what He sees in us.

"I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk . . . following their own thoughts . . . Who say, 'Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am holier than you!' These are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all the day” (Isa. 65:2-5, NASB).

Monday, October 5 Beg God to forgive us for our self-important pride that makes our bowing to serve others so laborious. Ask Him to grant the discipline needed to humble our hearts and to restore humility in us.

“The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector” (Luke 18:11, NIV).

Tuesday, October 6 Beseech the Lord to help us learn the humility that has a right view of ourselves and yields to God His rightful place as Lord. Ask God to help us comprehend how serious and sinful our lack of humility is and to grant us a resurgence of humility.

“But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves . . . But I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:26-27, NIV).

Wednesday, October 7 – Entreat the Lord to help us see that Jesus’ example reveals the relationship of walking with the Father as a servant resigned to the will of God no matter the cost. Ask God to form Christlike humility in us.

“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matt. 20:27-28, KJV).
