Prayer Connection - February 3, 2009
Dear Beloved Intercessor,
Praying for those in authority is often pushed to the back burner until a crisis looms on the horizon. 1 Peter 4:17 reminds us that “it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God;” so pray that we as God’s people will repent of our lackadaisical attitude, and return to being so in love with Jesus that we stay alert and aware of what is going on around us. Remember the words of Jesus in Mark 14:37-38.
It’s easier to pray for elected officials if we know who they are; so we’re including an article with Southern Baptist elected officials listed followed by other helpful resources.
Check out the book, God is the Issue by Brad Bright—we can be conduits for real change in our culture. Visit www.discovergod.com/god-is-the-issue for a free download, and share it with your Bible study group.
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties, and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority” (1 Tim. 2:1-4, NASB).
Thank you for being on the NAMB prayer team.
For God's Glory,
Elaine Helms
Weekly Prayer Focus for February 4: Awaken or Slide
“In this . . . is threatened the vengeance of God on the wicked unbelieving Israelites, who were God’s visible people, and who lived under the means of grace; but . . . remained void of counsel . . . Their foot shall slide in due time, seems to imply . . . the destruction to which these wicked Israelites were exposed.” – Jonathan Edwards
Scripture
“Their foot shall slide in due time . . .” (Deut. 32:35, KJV).
Prayer
Awaken and revive us, O Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Featured Article: Southern Baptists Express Hope
Although their comments were made prior to the inauguration, it is helpful to hear the thoughts of our lawmakers. Save the listing of the names of elected officials and other resources at the end—to help watch and pray.
- Elaine Ham, Pregnancy Resources, Church and Community Resources Consultant at NAMB is still praising God for the evidence of His grace in 2008. In the 249 NAMB affiliated Pregnancy Resource Centers, the Gospel was shared 39,468 times, there were 3,434 professions of faith, 145,433 clients were served and 4,726 babies were saved from abortion. Pray for workers in the centers to remain faithful even in the changing climate of our government.
