Prayer Connection - May 26, 2009

Dear Beloved Intercessor,

God wants us to remember Who He is and what He has done so that we will stay focused on Him and live victoriously regardless of our circumstances. We can learn from the Old Testament what happens if we forget. The more we focus on Jesus, the more we will love others and tell them about Him. Through obedience to Him, we can see our communities transformed and God exalted across North America. Let’s remember Him and fix our eyes on Jesus. See Heb. 12:1-3.

Read the “God at Work” stories about what He is doing through His obedient people across North America. In Him we have hope.

“One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. . . All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord . . . and talk of Your power; to make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4, 10-12, NASB).

Thank you for praying and for being on the NAMB prayer team.

For God's glory,
Elaine Helms

Weekly Prayer Focus for May 26 – Hindrances to Answered Prayer

God's Terms of Discipleship

“The essence of a follower of Jesus Christ is one who has dealt with and continually deals with sin in a radical manner. Jesus never hid nor did He ever alter the terms of discipleship…He says there must be a cross in the Christian’s life.” – Henry Blackaby

Scripture
“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27, NASB).

Prayer
Father, forgive us for hiding and altering the terms of discipleship by preaching a gospel that does not deal radically and continuously with sin. Help us return to Your standards for discipleship. In Jesus name, Amen.

These stories are just a glimpse of how God is drawing His people back to Himself, and sending us out to do the “good works He prepared beforehand for us to walk in.”

Other Prayer Requests

GOVERNMENT PRAYER SUNDAY – June 28, 2009  The National House of Prayer in Ottawa is partnering with Nation at Prayer to encourage churches and individuals from every part of the nation to take part in this annual national prayer initiative. June 28, is a day set apart for churches of all denominations across Canada to dedicate a portion of their Sunday morning church service to specifically pray for Canada and at least one elected governmental leader.

Mark Lydecker, Collegiate Coordinator with Student/Collegiate Evangelism, asks that we pray for 38 students being ‘parachuted’ into downtown Chicago to do outreach for 10 weeks this summer.  Pray that they can make great contacts which give insight into the neighborhoods, result in people coming to Christ, and in the formation of new churches.  Pray also for students to be developed in their walk with the Lord as they learn to be missionaries.

Continue to pray for Faith in Action Xtreme that began with Easter 2009. Pray that God would continue to provide strong and fruitful partnerships with local agencies and national partners and that many would be served in Jesus’ name and come to know the Savior.

Also pray for those that attended Fresh Encounter. Pray that they would experience spiritual renewal and revival.   Visit www.visionsandiego.com and click on “pray with us” for more prayer requests.

Embrace Baltimore

  • Pray that there will be a spiritual awakening in Baltimore

  • Pray for the upcoming summer activities including sports camps, VBS, and Bible Clubs that will take place.

Praises -

Harold Campbell, regional prayer coordinator for Quebec, Canada, sent this praise. “God called a new member to the Quebec prayer team! Jean-Paul Lavallee, a Quebecois living in Mississippi, is now translating prayer items into French and contacting French-speaking pastors and church planters for prayer requests. The fact that he speaks Quebecois French makes him a very valuable resource. Praise God for His faithfulness!

There were 89 missionaries and chaplains commissioned on Monday evening, May 18 in Mississippi. Praise God for the ministries of these who are entering the mission field.

Dan Biser of Broken Before the Throne Ministries writes:
We have just finished our first satellite version of Broken Before the Throne at Kendall Baptist Church in Temple Hills, MD.  What a joyous experience!  This church was ready to pray.  The pastor extended an invitation to us to come and lead the format of BBtT.  Aaron Miller and I led the sessions and Albert Epps was the music leader.  We had two days of prayer over their desire to see Washington DC reached and rescued.  AS well, they want the other churches to be houses of prayer.  Confession, supplication and intercession prevailed throughout the two days.  We had several that were with us that had been at the BBtT's week long prayer times. There were hiccups and difficulties with technical stuff but even with that, the Spirit led from beginning to end.  It was, and is, a work of God happening right before my eyes.  I continue to give praise and thanks for what the Lord is doing in the body of His people.  There is a people being raised up to prevail in prayer and God continues to put them in my life.  We are pondering and waiting to see where the Lord is leading us to consider for future conferences. Thank you again for your support and encouragement in prayer.  Pray for the upcoming Broken Before the Throne conference, August 8 - 14 at Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:13)
