Prayer Connection - September 29, 2009

Dear Beloved Intercessor,

One of the benefits of being a part of the body of Christ is how we help each other in times of need. We’re seeing an example of that in the Southeast where flooding took residents by surprise last week. Not only are teams activated to assist Christians, they are offering help in the name of Jesus to whoever is in need. Please pray for God to direct workers to those who need it most and for workers to “not grow weary” in doing good. See the God at work story below.

Pray too, that Southern Baptists will become known as people of compassion who care about their communities and the needs they find around them. Between fires in California and floods in the east, there are plenty of opportunities to “do good.” Pray that many will step out of their comfort zones and volunteer to help where needed. For mission opportunities go to www.namb.net and click on “Mission Opportunities”.

“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Gal. 6:10, NASB).

Thank you for praying and for being on the NAMB prayer team.

For God's glory,
Elaine Helms

Weekly Prayer Focus  –  Resurgence of Humility

“Discipleship takes . . . humility, self-sacrifice, placing the other person first . . . Our culture has become more and more self-centered . . . This is why discipleship is failing.” –T.W. Hunt

Scripture
“ . . . But I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:26-27, NIV).

Prayer
Father, forgive us for failing to teach, preach, and practice the humility needed to be Your disciples. Cleanse us of our pride and restore humility to Your church in North America. Grant us a resurgence of humility. In Jesus’s name, amen.
