Patriotic Coupon Clipping
First Baptist Church of Pierce City, Mo., is clipping coupons for Christ. This isn't a cute quip. So far the church's Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) group has sent $7,000 in savings to military families on a base in Italy, all through the Overseas Coupon Program. This year the organization has saved military families more than $2 million. Military families are limited to doing their shopping for groceries and household items at the Commissaries and Post Exchanges on base, where prices can be more expensive than U.S. stores. Both the Commissaries and Post Exchanges allow the use of manufacturer's coupons up to six months past their expiration date. "We have let it be known to the community that we need coupons, and they have overwhelmingly responded," says Tammie Lombard of First Baptist. "I get more coupons than I can handle." So, if you're looking for something to do with all those expired coupons, send them to the troops. Another resource for this program is www.couponstotroops.com.
