Disaster Relief Update - Friday May 22, 2009

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand." (2 Corinthians 1:4)

God continues His amazing work through Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers. These volunteers are working feverously to complete an overwhelming amount of work. This could not be done without the strength given by the Lord. God is being honored through the commitment of His people in these difficult days.

Mother's Day Storm Cleanup Continues

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are reporting work in the following locations this week:

Illinois
There are still over 600 jobs remaining in Illinois as of today. Nine states including AL, IN, KS/NE, LA, MI, MO, NY, OH, and TN have joined Units from Illinois in the cleanup effort. Jack Shelby, IL DR Director and the IC staff are coordinating the work out of Third Baptist Church in Marion, IL. Teams are being fed and housed here and in Carbondale at Lakeland Baptist Church.

Missouri
Missouri teams are still working in Fredericktown and Joplin. TN units are scheduled to join the work in Fredericktown next week.

West Virginia
The work continues in Gilbert and Matewan, West Virginia where flooding has left a significant amount of mudout work to be done. Teams from MO, NC, New England, OH, SBCV, SC, TN, and VBMB are working alongside WV DR volunteers.

Oklahoma Tornado
Sam Porter, State DR Director for Oklahoma reported his teams at work following a tornado last Wednesday in Anadarko. He activated 3 chain saw teams. They had 100 job requests. By Saturday they had already completed about 45 jobs.

Activity Reported as of 5/22
The labor of these volunteers has not been in vain as God has continued adding to His kingdom. DR volunteers have reported 10 professions of faith during the month of May.
