Disaster Relief Update - Thursday May 28, 2009
"As for Me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all [people] to Myself." (John 12:32)
Christ is drawing people to Himself. It is our job to share what Christ has done in our lives, it is the work of the Holy Spirit to draw people to Christ. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers continue to lift Christ up by ministering in many ways to those affected by disasters and a number are coming to faith in Christ because of the faithful work of these volunteers. In the month of May, one out of five persons with whom SBDR volunteers have shared the gospel, have come to know Christ as Savior.
As we near the half way point for 2009, we have seen 75 lives changed by Christ as our volunteers have served Him in disasters. Many of these volunteers are weary and tired and we know that hurricane season is upon us. We must pray for strength and rest as we continue to heed the call that Christ has placed upon us. Please pray for volunteers from the following states who are serving presently: AL, IL, IN, LA, MO, MS, NC, OH, SBCV SC, TN, VBMB, and WV. Teams from KS/NE, NY, and New England are returning from their service.
Active work continues in Carbondale and Marion, IL, Fredericktown, MO, and Gilbert and Matewan, WV.
