Job Description
Title: LeConte Lodge Chaplain
Principle Function:
The LeConte Lodge Chaplain is responsible to the Sevier County Association of Baptists [SCAB], the Tennessee Baptist Convention [TBC], and the North American Mission Board [NAMB] for working under the leadership of the Directors of Smoky Mountain Resort Ministries [SMRM] in planning, conducting, and evaluating programs of resort missions for those who work and play at LeConte Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Qualifications:
1. Shall match those qualifications of LeConte Lodge crew employment.
2. Shall be a member in good standing of a Southern Baptist Church.
3. Shall be a student of or hold a degree from an accredited college or university and/or Baptist seminary.
4. Have a Christian testimony as to conversion and call.
5. Be an individual of good report as to personal conduct in his/her home, business, and church.
6. Be a self-starter; able to work alone.
7. Have the physical ability to hike to the lodge at an elevation of 6,593 feet.
Relationships:
1. The Chaplain is to be assigned by the NAMB to work through the TBC in and with the SCAB for SMRM. The chaplain will serve on the local committee of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks [ACMNP].
2. The Chaplain will work in cooperation with the directors of SMRM. The directors of SMRM are to be his/her direct supervisor. While on the mountain, the chaplain shall answer to the manager on duty.
3. The Chaplain shall be responsible to SMRM, the ACMNP, the SCAB, the TBC, and the NAMB for all his/her actions.
4. Regular or called meetings shall be held with the directors of SMRM.
5. A monthly report shall be filed with SMRM and other agencies as needed.
Responsibilities:
1. Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate worship services for the crew and guests of LeConte Lodge. (Sunrise, 9:15 a.m. services, and children's Sunday School time). Special services are to be done as needed.
2. Build relationships with LeConte Lodge crew and guests.
3. Work as a crew guest around lodge as needed.
4. Participate in ACMNP meetings and activities.
5. Assist in planning, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating resort missions in the resort community related to SMRM under the Directors of SMRM.
