Campus Missionary Strategy

Campus Missionary Strategy

It is for college students to fulfill the Great Commission by influencing, impacting, and investing.

Introduction

The Campus Missionary strategy is the transformed life of a college student commissioned by their local church to engage their college or university campus with biblical truth in an on-mission lifestyle. It is for college students to fulfill the Great Commission by influencing, impacting, and investing.

The CM strategy is a fresh, yet powerful challenge to local churches to commission graduating high school seniors and current college students to become actively involved in their campus community in sharing the gospel. The strategy is an on-mission, on campus emphasis for students to be a sign and a servant of the kingdom of God. The CM strategy is committed to churches who will send and receive students to collaborate with God in His work on the college and university campuses of North America and around the world.

“God is calling out a missionary presence with an apostolic mindset, living adventurously as a subversive movement, realizing afresh it’s total reliance on the Lord.”(Eddie Gibbs) The CM strategy is connecting passionate students from a local church to a college campus that desperately needs to hear and see Hope. A great pioneer missionary to Africa said, “Some would rather live within the sound of a chapel or church bell. I would rather run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.” Campus Missionaries are sent out from their home church to seek out the lost on the college or university campus, not attract a crowd.

What is a campus missionary?

Most often when Christians think of missionaries, their understanding is limited to older people returning from serving 20 years in some foreign land where they have suffered physical hardships and political persecution. These missionaries have been willing to give up the security and luxury that their homes and family afford in exchange for reaching people that no one else can reach. But not all mission fields are far away, and not all missionaries leave their country to serve.

A campus missionary commissioned by their local church discovers that his/her college is their mission field. Just like an international missionary targets a people group, the campus missionary targets his peers and other campus personnel to be reached with the gospel. They are seeking and finding the lost student culture on their campus.

All missionaries have to cross certain cultural, political and spiritual barriers. Campus missionaries will even have to learn the “language” and culture of some groups on campus in order to develop witnessing relationships. Campus missionaries will not just watch for opportunities to share their faith but will learn to create opportunities to share the gospel in appropriate and natural ways.

Campus missionaries will team up with other students to help accomplish the mission they are called to do and to hold each other accountable. They will serve and meet various needs of people on campus in order to earn the right to be heard. Campus missionaries will be a citizen and ambassador of another Kingdom while living by the rules of the host culture.

Campus Missionary is currently in pilot stage and will be coming with a full range of materials on line for you to connect to this Fall.
