Disaster Relief Story of Good News
One of our DR volunteers from the Bowling Green area shared with me at a training this week of his experience in Princeton area with one of our KY Baptist DR Kitchen units. Upon arrival, the evening meal was well under way and with the number of volunteers at the moment he was not really needed. He said, "My first thought was Lord, why did you get me here today if I am not needed until tomorrow?" The he said the Lord convicted him almost immediately of even having this thought and he decided maybe he was here for a different opportunity. He noticed a small group of people sitting at a table and went over to talk with them. a short while later, the conversation turned spiritual and he was able to share the plan of salvation with one of the Red Cross workers. The Red Cross worker expressed that he was ready to make that decision and our DR volunteer began to lead the Red Cross worker in the Sinner's Prayer. In the midst of this prayer, another hand reached across the table and grasped our DR volunteer's hand and joined in a prayer of confession and repentance. Upon closing the prayer, our volunteer discovered that not one but two Red Cross workers had prayed to receive Christ. The worker said, "God taught me again that His plans are not always our plans, and that I had not come to cook meals but to make this appointment with two Red Cross friends who needed to hear about the Good News of Christ." I am sorry that I did not get our volunteer's name as something came up that I had to take care of at the training. The great news is that brings us to 52 Professions of Faith and 17 other decisions during the Disaster Relief ice storm response to Kentucky this winter.
