The OMC Coordinating Team

Every OMC is a joint partnership between Baptist associations and participating churches. The associational OMC Coordinating Team focuses on local arrangements and events that impact all participating churches. Each participating church should have an OMC Coordinating Team to oversee all OMC activities for their church family.

It would be a serious mistake for associational missions personnel, pastors, and/or other church staff to think they can implement an OMC on their own. OMC’s are major league missions awareness events requiring a planning team committed to the task of planning, promoting, and conducting an effective associational/church-wide event. OMC Coordinating Teams are comprised of the following members: Team Coordinator, Spiritual Preparation Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator, Promotion Coordinator, Finance Coordinator, and Program Personnel Arrangements Coordinator.

Brief descriptions of each role of the OMC Coordinating teams are listed below. More detailed information is available in the OMC Coordinating Team sections of the On Mission Celebration Planning Resource (see OMC resources).

The OMC Team Coordinator:
OMC Team Coordinators lead the team in planning and executing every aspect of the OMC. The associational OMC Team Coordinator may be the associational director of missions, another member of the associational missions staff, associational moderator, a pastor, other church staff member, mission education leader, or a key layleader. The church OMC Team coordinator may be the pastor, another church staff member, church mission/mobilization team leader, or other layleader.

Spiritual Preparation Coordinator:
OMC Spiritual Preparation Coordinators lead in implementing an associational-wide prayer, proclamation, and biblical missions study strategy that forms an effective foundation and climate resulting in God mobilizing churches and individual Christians for strategic short- and long-term mission service, mission prayer, and financial support.

Special Events Coordinator:
OMC Special Events Coordinators lead in the planning of age-level focused events which personalizes missions to participants of the OMC. Examples of associational OMC special events: Associational OMC Missions Walk Around, noon luncheons, and rally. Examples of church OMC special events: Children’s events, youth events, and small group encounters with guest missionaries.

Promotion Coordinator:
OMC promotion coordinators lead in designing and implementing the best promotion plan possible to encourage maximum participation from churches and local community residents.

Finance Coordinator:
OMC finance coordinators oversee finances related to the On Mission Celebration.

Program Personnel Arrangements Coordinator:
OMC program personnel arrangement coordinators focus on hospitality issues regarding guest missionaries participating in the OMC including meals, lodging, and transportation.
