Other Ministry Opportunities

Migrant Ministries
Migrant and seasonal farm workers often experience discrimination and exploitation. When churches respond to their needs with caring ministries, migrants are treated with dignity and respect for the first time; and they are very receptive to the Gospel. To learn more about volunteering in ministry in these areas, contact your State Ministry Evangelism staff.

Substance Abuse Ministries
Millions of people are addicted to alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, and other harmful substances. As a Christian, you may want to know more about these problems and how to help addicted people. Workshops and materials on the prevention and treatment of substance abuse are available to churches and associations. These are among the many groups that provide additional resources:

  • NAMB missionary Tobey Pitman in New Orleans. tpitman@namb.net
  • www.Hazelden.org—Hazelden is a nationally recognized treatment and educational resource center.
  • www.MAMAsite.net—Mothers Against Methamphetamine provides a series of pamphlets that explain how different drugs affect the brain and personality. Each of these pamphlets also presents the gospel of Jesus in a way that is relevant to the addict struggling with this issue.

Homeless Ministries
Homelessness is no longer just a problem in the cities. Rural towns are having to deal with increasing homeless populations as well. Providing shelters for people who are homeless is one way churches can get involved. Churches also need to become informed about causes of homelessness, the needs of people who are homeless and ways local churches can make a difference in the lives of these people.
