How Does The SBC Support Chaplaincy and Counselors in Ministry?
Chaplaincy and counseling ministry is supported by the SBC through its various organizations. NAMB is tasked with providing the endorsement process and providing leadership in the promotion and support of chaplaincy and counseling ministry.
Each state convention has a person designated as the "State Chaplaincy Representative." The various state convention representatives form part of the promotion and support team for SBC chaplains and counselors in ministry. Some state conventions have programs of training conferences, site visits, and are actively developing new ministry opportunities.
The Chaplaincy Evangelism Team and State Chaplaincy Representative promote chaplaincy and counseling ministry by:
- Bringing Southern Baptists into contact with chaplaincy and counseling ministry opportunities.
- Recruiting qualified chaplains and counselors and processing them for denominational endorsement through the Chaplains Commission.
- Providing information to churches, associations, state conventions, and other agencies regarding chaplaincy and counseling ministry.
- Consulting and advising churches, associations, state conventions, and SBC leaders on matters pertaining to chaplaincy and counseling ministry.
- Providing liaison for chaplains and the SBC with employers and professional organizations.
- Assisting churches, associations, and state conventions in establishing chaplaincy and counseling ministry programs.
