Domestic Hunger Funds
The North American Mission Board’s Hunger Ministry assists churches, associations, and state conventions, so that in the process of distributing food, the gospel can be shared with people in need. By meeting physical needs, opportunities are created to address their spiritual needs. The North American Mission Board’s Community Evangelism Unit administers the Domestic Hunger Fund program. The program represents 20 percent of monies designated by Southern Baptists to the SBC World Hunger offerings. Eighty percent is assigned to the International Mission Board.
In 2005, more than $1.6 million was provided to 2,259 hunger ministries in North America. Also, more than 3 million meals were provided with Domestic Hunger Funds, and more than 32,000 professions of faith were reported through hunger ministries. These ministries have been accomplished in large measure thanks to the financial giving of thousands of people to the Hunger Fund.
