Families on Mission
Blue Ridge, Georgia

June 2008 Project

The second Families on Mission project of the summer took place from June 14-19 in Blue Ridge, Ga. This project consisted of 80 participants from more than 20 families. The project coordinator was Keith Jones. Morganton Baptist Church, where Keith is the pastor, hosted meals and worship for the participants that week. Chad Childress was the evening worship service speaker.

During the week, participants had the opportunity to take part in several different ministry opportunities, including aiding local Vacation Bible Schools, visiting nursing homes, and prayer walking the local public schools.

On Tuesday, families took part in a block party at Gilmer County Park where visitors had the opportunity to play games for prizes, have their faces painted, ride a pony, and take part in many fun activities.

The most unique experience of the week took place at the block party. Two children who were saved at Vacation Bible School were baptized in the river. Being able to witness these children’s baptism and their excitement was something the participants will remember long after the project is over.

Throughout the week, the gospel was presented more than 100 times, resulting in seven salvations. More than $1,000 was collected from the offering and given to the hispanic pastors in the Morganton and Gilmer Associations.

July 2008 Project

A second Families on Mission project was held in Blue Ridge from July 12-17, with more than 30 families representing approximately 100 participants. The project coordinator was Keith Jones, local pastor of Morganton Baptist Church. The church hosted meals and served as worship center each day.

During the week, families engaged in various ministry opportunities, including sports camps, Vacation Bible Schools, survey work, acts of kindness (window washing), and construction.

On Tuesday afternoon, the families hosted a community-wide block party with games, moon bounces, a pony ride, and of course lots of food.

Throughout the week, the gospel was shared more than 100 times, resulting in four known professions of faith!
