Families on Mission
Bryson City/Cherokee, North Carolina

The first Families on Mission project of the summer took place in Bryson City, N.C., on June 7-12.  More than 130 participants, representing approximately 40 families, participated.  The project coordinator for the week was James Tew.  During the week, families had the opportunity to take part in campground ministries, nursing home visits, construction, and “random” acts of kindness.  The campground teams visited different campgrounds each morning and different nursing homes each afternoon.  The construction teams painted an elderly woman’s home, painted a local church (Life Fellowship Baptist Church), and worked at the Tennessee River Baptist Association.  The families that participated in the “random” acts of kindness did yard work for elderly people living on the Cherokee Indian Reservation.

Each night, dinner and worship took place at Shoal Creek Baptist Church.  Meals were provided by disaster relief volunteers.  The worship speaker for the week was Keith Manuel.  The missions offering in Bryson City was split between the Tennessee River Baptist Association and S.W.A.R.M. (South West Area Resort Ministry).  The total for the missions offering came to $1,809.46.

The gospel was presented more than 150 times with 15 salvations - 13 from within the community as a result of projects and 2 participant salvations.
