Ministry Projects:

Families on Mission is providing families the exciting opportunity to serve in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast GeorgiaHelen, Georgia is a resort town that caters to tourists during the summer and fall. Research of White County and other counties around Helen indicate that over 75% are un-churched and do not know Christ. There will be numerous ministry project opportunities to reach both groups with the Gospel.

Ministry projects to meet the tourist population will be day camps and backyard Bible clubs at campgrounds, a block party in downtown Helen, acts of kindness on the river as adults and children tube the Chattahoochee River, free car washes and sports camps.

Ministry projects for the residents of Helen and the surrounding area will include senior adult VBS at the White County Senior Center and local nursing homes, VBS assistance with local churches, assistance with food and clothing ministries, minor home repair and painting, and numerous servant evangelism opportunities.  The projects will be coordinated through the North American Mission Board and the director of the Georgia Mountain Resort Ministries, Keith Ivey.

Participants will also have the opportunity to work with a new church scheduled to launch later this year or early in 2009.  Families will have the opportunity to do survey work in the community, hand out door hangers, and visit shut-ins.

Housing:  Families will stay in local motels in Helen.

Meals and Meetings:   We will meet at a local church for evening meals, training sessions, and evening worship times.  Breakfast will be at the motel and sack lunches will be provided for ministry project days.
