National Literacy Missions Leadership Workshop

 Shawnee, Oklahoma
 June  22-28, 2008

Purpose:

To train workshop leaders to conduct one of the three Basic Literacy Missions Workshops:

  • Adult Reading and Writing (ARW)
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Tutoring Children and Youth (TCY)

Prerequisites

  • Must be a member of a Southern Baptist congregation.
  • Adult Reading and Writing or Teaching English as a Second Language (formerly called Conversational English)
    1. Completed a basic NAMB literacy missions workshop in the area you are seeking training.  (Preferably within the past five years)
    2. At least eight months experience prior to April 1, 2008 working with students in a volunteer literacy missions ministry in the area you are seeking training. (Preferably within the last three years)
    3. Recommendation by State Literacy Missions Consultant or person responsible for literacy missions in your convention.
  • Tutoring Children and Youth (It is highly recommended that you have completed a basic NAMB Tutoring Children and Youth basic workshop but not necessary.)
    1. Experience as an elementary or secondary grade teacher
      OR
      Experience working in a volunteer tutoring ministry or program.
    2. Recommendation by your Convention Literacy Missions Consultant or person responsible for literacy missions in your convention.

Requirements for Certification as a NAMB Literacy Missions Workshop Leader

  • Must be a member of a Southern Baptist Congregation.
  • Must attend all sessions of the leadership workshop.
  • Must successfully complete all written assignments and oral presentations by the conclusion of the leadership workshop.
  • Must demonstrate the qualities and characteristics of a good workshop leader.

Application and registration process 

  • E-mail application form  to Kendale Moore, kmoore@namb.net 
  • OR print the form and mail to Kendale Moore, North American Mission Board, 4200 North Point Pkwy, Alpharetta, GA 30022. (Do not include $45 registration fee with mail-in application.)
  • After approval by NAMB staff and your state convention literacy missions coordinator or state convention staff person responsible for literacy missions ministries, you will receive confirmation of your acceptance for the workshop.
  • When your application has been approved you will be directed to an Event website to register for the workshop. Registration fee is to be paid at time of registration: (credit card option)

    Housing and airport shuttle costs are listed below. They are due by June 1, 2008.

  • With your acceptance, you will receive preparation information and assignments for the workshop.
