New Acts 1:8 Challenge Tools

Acts 1:8 Leadership Seminars Piloted

The first Acts 1:8 Challenge Leadership Seminars were piloted recently in Arkansas and Michigan.

The seminar is designed to assist pastors and missions leaders get on the right track as they lead their churches to embrace an Acts 1:8 paradigm of ministry. The seminar is unique in that all four Acts 1:8 SBC partners - the local association, state Baptist convention, the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board - jointly lead the event.

The first seminar pilot was held Feb. 16 at First Baptist Church, Star City, Ark., and was hosted by Harmony Baptist Association (above photo). Dewayne Tanton is director of missions. A second pilot was held Feb. 21 at Merriman Road Baptist Church, Garden City, Mich., and was hosted by Ted Stephens of the Baptist State Convention of Michigan (at right).

A third pilot is scheduled to be held April 25 in Missouri.

If you would like to request a seminar be held in your association, contact your local director of missions.

Each Samaria Update highlights key Acts 1:8 Challenge Kingdom-growing responses to assist your church in fulfilling its Acts 1:8 Challenge commitment.

Give - North American Missions

While many Southern Baptist churches recently observed the Week of Prayer for North American Missions March 2-9, your church can still promote the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering now or other times during the year.

Promotional materials such as posters, prayer guides, offering envelopes, studies and videos are available free for download at  www.AnnieArmstrong.com. Some promotion materials are available in Spanish, Korean and French as well.

The goal for the 2008 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is $61 million. 100 percent of gifts to the offering are used to support the work of 5,200-plus missionaries throughout North America.

Go - Summer Missions Opportunities

There's something for everyone as the summer approaches by participating in student and adult missions opportunities through the North American Mission Board.

World Changers provides opportunities for students and their leaders to share the gospel by providing home improvement for substandard housing in the form of painting, roofing and other projects. More information about World Changers is available at www.world-changers.net.

PowerPlant encourages students to become intentionally involved in a church planting activity while providing Vacation Bible School, community outreach, block parties, sports camps and other ministries. More information about PowerPlant is available at www.power-plant.net.

If you are looking to get families in your church involved in missions, check out Families on Mission www.namb.net/fom for opportunities for the summer of 2008. The pre-packaged mission trips are for families to experience missions together.
