Families on Mission
Helen, Georgia                               
June 13-18, 2009 

Families on Mission provided families the exciting opportunity to serve in Helen, Ga. Ministry projects were coordinated through the North American Mission Board and the Georgia Mountain Resort Ministry (GMRM) missionary, Keith Ivy. GMRM is located in Helen and ministers through the churches to the people in White County.  Helen is a tourist town in the North Georgia Mountains. Approximately 80 percent of its population (est. 13,000) is unchurched. In addition, many tourists flock to this quaint mountain town to experience tubing, hiking, and the beautiful mountain scenery.

Participants worked through GMRM and local Southern Baptist churches in Helen, Cleveland, and the surrounding area. Each family had the opportunity to reach out to the community through outreach activities such as Vacation Bible School, Backyard Bible Clubs, block and community parties, nursing home ministry, campground ministry, sports camps, and general acts of kindness.
