'Drop' mission education into whatever your church is doing

A transition in many churches from stand-alone mission education programs to broader activities doesn’t have to mean an end to emphasizing the importance of missions and missionaries.

NAMB’s Drop-In Mission Education (DIME) provides resources that can be “dropped in” to whatever your church is doing. That may be Awana, youth meetings, Backyard Bible Clubs or other existing programs.

The effort began in 2007, and has since become a key part of NAMB’s mission education strategy. “The response has been just amazing,” said David Nelms, content development coordinator for NAMB’’s Mission Education team. Like all NAMB downloadable resources they’re offered at no cost.

Here’s what’s currently available:

SnackPack Missions, the most popular resource, offers 15- 20-minute sessions for children that include a learning activity, a missions story and a follow-up “challenge.” The largest use has been during Awana “counsel time” – often on a monthly basis. It’s also available in a contextualized Spanish edition. Sample Lesson

Backpack Missions offers simple object lessons used for children’s sermons, camp settings or other venues. The character “Backpack Andy” uses objects pulled from his backpack to teach missions principles. Sample Lesson
Hi-Speed Missions offers a series of four studies each on a dozen topics of interest to youth – including worldview, sexuality, technology, holiness and peer pressure.

Materials for adults are also on the way. Look for EnterMissions resources in spring 2010.
