BENEFITS OBJECTIVE: Consistent with the biblical principles of love and good stewardship, the objective of the North American Mission Board (NAMB) is to offer benefits that provide for basic preventative healthcare, major medical healthcare, and financial protection in circumstances related to illness or injury, in addition to providing financial assistance for retirement.

ELIGIBILITY: Full time employees and part-time employees regularly working 20 or more hours per week and at least 1000 hours per year are eligible for benefits upon date of hire. Eligible dependents of the employee may also be covered under NAMB benefits plans. Eligible dependents include the spouse and unmarried children up to age 19. Unmarried children who are full-time students regularly attending school and solely dependent upon the employee for support may remain eligible until their 25th birthday. Benefits begin on the date of hire, provided that enrollment forms are completed and returned within 31 days of the hire date.

Term Life Insurance: A core term life benefit is provided at two times base annualized pay, which is your base salary plus housing as approved by the Board of Trustees. The full cost is paid by NAMB for the primary insured.

Supplemental Life Insurance: Voluntary additional life insurance that may be purchased for the primary worker, spouse, and unmarried dependent children under age 19, or up to age 25 years if the child is a full-time student. The full premium cost of this benefit is paid by the primary insured.

Disability Coverage: Short Term (STD) and Long Term (LTD) Disability coverage provides monthly income protection should you become temporarily or permanently disabled due to a non-work related sickness or injury. The coverage provides 60 percent of your monthly salary when coordinated with other disability benefits received from other sources, e.g. Social Security. To be eligible for STD and LTD benefits, the primary insured must be employed by NAMB for six consecutive months and meet the STD and LTD insurer requirements. The premium for the STD is paid by NAMB. The LTD premium is shared 50% by NAMB and 50% by the primary insured.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D): AD&D is voluntary income protection against financial hardships that can occur when death is the result of an accident or during the recovery and rehabilitation period if you suffer an accidental dismemberment. This benefit is paid in addition to other life insurance and/or disability insurance benefits. Dependent coverage is available on a percentage basis. The full premium cost of this benefit is paid by the primary insured.

Flexible Spending Account: Under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, participating employees are allowed to set aside a portion of their paycheck on a pre-tax basis to pay for certain out of pocket medical and dependent care expenses. The maximum annual election for the medical spending account is $4,800 and the maximum annual election for the dependent care (day care) spending account is $5,000.

Workers’ Compensation: Medical coverage and/or income protection for any job related injury or illness. All injuries must be reported to Benefits Services within 24 hours, and treatment must be provided by Workers’ Compensation approved providers and facilities. A list of these providers can be found on the display board just inside the entry to the lunchroom or in Benefits Services.

Unemployment Compensation: Financial assistance from the state in case of a job loss. Since NAMB is a non profit, religious organization, it does not pay unemployment taxes. Therefore, NAMB would not be considered a “qualified employer” under the state’s definition.

403(b)(9) Retirement Plan: Financial assistance for retirement. NAMB, on your behalf, establishes a 403b account and contributes on a semi-monthly basis a percent of your annualized salary. Consistent with federal guidelines, you may (on a voluntary basis) contribute additional funds to this account. The current NAMB contribution rate is 10% of your base annualized salary.
