Disaster Relief Award Criteria

Robert E. Dixon Lifetime Achievement Award

Recipients:
Gary Smith – Texas Baptist Men
Coy Webb – Kentucky Baptist Convention 

The Robert E. Dixon Award is presented to one individual who meets the following qualifications:

  • A local, state, or national volunteer or a staff person.
  • A person who has demonstrated the fruit of the Holy Spirit in his or her daily life as well as in service through disaster relief.
  • A person who has provided service "above and beyond the call of duty."
  • A person who has contributed Christlike leadership in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.

The Dixon Award is awarded based on a lifetime of service that has helped to shape the course of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. Individuals nominated are key people whose contributions to disaster relief have made a significant impact on the ministry, both inside and outside their state. Their involvement has elevated Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in a significant manner. One Lifetime Achievement Award can be presented each year.

Joel W. Phillips Outstanding Achievement Award

Recipients:
Mark Madison – Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention
David Reynolds – Georgia Baptist Convention
Ralph Rogers – Texas Baptist Men 

The Joel W. Phillips Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to up to two individuals who meet the following qualifications:

  • A local, state, or national volunteer or a staff person.
  • A person who has demonstrated "Christ in the Crisis."
  • A person who has provided consistent outstanding leadership in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief for three or more years.
  • A person who has demonstrated outstanding ability or accomplishment in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is given for a series of services. Individuals nominated should demonstrate 3+ years of service above and beyond the call of duty. No more than two Outstanding Achievement Awards are presented each year.

Distinguished Service Award

Carl Brill – Baptist Convention of Maryland-Delaware
James Brown – Tennessee Baptist Convention
Don Dana – Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention
Dan Fuller – Oklahoma Baptist General Convention
Carolyn and Jerry Gray – Kentucky Baptist Convention
Linda Gregory – Florida Baptist Convention 

The Distinguished Service Award is based on the previous year's service in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief:

  • A local, state, or national volunteer or a staff person.
  • A person who has provided distinguished service to the kingdom of God through Southern Baptist Disaster Relief during the most recent year.
  • A person who has demonstrated "Christ in the Crisis" during the most recent year.
  • A person who has demonstrated distinguished ability and accomplishment in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief during the most recent year.

The Distinguished Service Award is for a specific performance in response to a crisis during the most the most recent year. Individuals nominated should have a testimony describing how they went beyond the call of duty and distinguished themselves during a particular disaster response or series of responses.
