INDIANAPOLIS \u2013 Preceding this year\u2019s Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Send Network, the North American Mission Board\u2019s (NAMB) church planting arm, hosted a kickoff event on Sunday evening, June 9, designed to set the focus for the busy days ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re calling this the Send Network Kickoff because we want to set the tone and let this be one of the first things you experience at the SBC Annual Meeting,\u201d said Noah Oldham, Send Network\u2019s executive director, at the event\u2019s opening, adding, \u201cBecause this is so much more than a business meeting\u2014brothers and sisters fill the room who are called by God on mission with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was a primary thread weaving through the event: \u201cWhat unites us is bigger than what divides us,\u201d said Send Network President, Vance Pitman.<\/p>\n

Several hundred church planters and other ministry leaders from cities across North America joined in worship before several of Send Network\u2019s vice presidents shared how God is moving through church planting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe teach people all the time from our pulpits, talking about money, talking about finances, trust God with the first and best of your finances. What if we started trusting God with the first and the best of our people?\u201d asked Matt Carter, vice president of mobilization.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for our unity. It is all of us together doing it. It\u2019s Spanish-speaking and English-speaking churches raising up and sending out,\u201d added Jose Abella, vice president of Send Network Espa\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n

Vance Pitman, president of Send Network, took to the stage to celebrate God\u2019s activity through Send Network in the past year and the vision of what\u2019s to come.<\/p>\n

\u201cEphesians 3:20 says, \u2018To Him who is<\/em> able\u2019\u2014it doesn\u2019t say who was<\/em> able,\u201d said Pitman. \u201cHe\u2019s as able today as He\u2019s ever been, and He\u2019s as able tomorrow as He ever will be. I\u2019m excited about what God has done, but I\u2019m more excited about what He\u2019s going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

NAMB\u2019s Vice President of Resources and Marketing, Trevin Wax, presented a brief overview and history of how the SBC functions for attendees who were new to the annual meeting. He then led a panel discussion on how this year\u2019s SBC Annual Meeting can advance church planting.<\/p>\n

Wax and Pitman were joined by J.D. Greear, lead pastor of The Summit Church in Durham, N.C., and Brian Bloye, Vice President of Strategies and Development for Send Network and pastor of West Ridge Church in Dallas, Ga.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not here because we love business meetings. We\u2019re here because we love the kingdom,\u201d Wax said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want a convention that comes together for the mission,\u201d echoed Greear, with Bloye adding, \u201cI just want to be part of a tribe on mission.\u201d<\/p>\n

Send Network\u2019s value of \u201cdeepen devotion\u201d was displayed at the conclusion of the Kickoff as Pitman led planters and church leaders in an extended time of prayer. Church planting leaders bowed their heads together to pray over the convention and each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are on this big team together. Be in prayer for all that God is doing,\u201d Oldham said as he dismissed the group in a spirit of prayer.<\/p>\n
