{"id":26457,"date":"2024-12-10T15:15:14","date_gmt":"2024-12-10T20:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.namb.net\/send-network\/?post_type=resource&#038;p=26457"},"modified":"2025-11-06T19:48:57","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T00:48:57","slug":"calling-noah-oldham","status":"publish","type":"resource","link":"https:\/\/www.namb.net\/send-network\/resource\/calling-noah-oldham\/","title":{"rendered":"Calling &#8211; Noah Oldham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"btn\" style=\"font-family: proxima-nova\" href=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/progressive_redirect\/download\/1036821484\/rendition\/1080p\/%233_-_calling_%289_essentials_of_a_faithful_and_effective_church_planter%29%20%281080p%29.mp4?loc=external&amp;signature=bea3788584f8472f67bc8717e93245108188f00998193c234db669296b9ea8a8\">Download Video<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Send Network is a family of churches joining in God\u2019s activity of planting churches for the expansion of His kingdom in North America and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Critical to this bold mission is the equipping of church planters.<\/p>\n<p>We develop planters in nine essential qualities for faithful and effective ministry.<\/p>\n<p>One of our essentials focuses on a church planter\u2019s calling: is he confident in his calling?<\/p>\n<p>Calling and commendation bring together the inward desire to start a church along with outside affirmation from other leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Calling speaks to one\u2019s inner conviction or ambition for the work.<\/p>\n<p>Commendation speaks to the need for others to recognize and affirm the planter\u2019s gifts and maturity required for the work.<\/p>\n<p>Both serve to provide confidence in the life of the church planter.<\/p>\n<p>So how does a church planter exhibit confidence in his calling to plant a church?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He has a deep compulsion for the work.<\/li>\n<li>He has a sure sense of God\u2019s vocational leading, confirmed by his local church\u2019s elders or leaders.<\/li>\n<li>He seeks the Lord through prayer with others for affirmation of God\u2019s calling on his life.<\/li>\n<li>He is passionate about serving God and deeply aspires to be a planter and minister of the gospel.<\/li>\n<li>He sets a godly example for others and has a lifestyle that is above reproach.<\/li>\n<li>He demonstrates spiritual gifts necessary for the tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I remember the season of God\u2019s calling me and my wife to plant a church.<\/p>\n<p>The pastors at my home church had affirmed me to ministry, ordaining me as an elder earlier that year, but they had never planted a church and didn\u2019t know where to start.<\/p>\n<p>My wife affirmed the calling.<\/p>\n<p>My friends and close family members affirmed the calling.<\/p>\n<p>I even went through a church-planting assessment where they affirmed my gifts and qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, I knew there was something missing\u2026one piece of affirmation not yet in place: that of a sending church.<\/p>\n<p>My sending church pastor, a dear friend who had discipled me in college and believed I was being called by God was asked this question: would you follow him into this work?<\/p>\n<p>To which he whole-heartedly said, \u201cyes, absolutely!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But then he was asked, \u201cWould you send your family\u2026your wife and your kids\u2026to follow him into this work?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He paused for a moment and then said with deep love yet absolutely sobriety: \u201cNot yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But almost a year later, after my church-planting residency was finished, the elders of my sending church laid their hands on me and my wife and prayed to send us out.<\/p>\n<p>My sending pastor told that story.<\/p>\n<p>And then he said, \u201cNow you\u2019re ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You see, he wanted to be absolutely sure of my calling.<\/p>\n<p>And now he was.<\/p>\n<p>And so was I.<\/p>\n<p>May God continue to call more planters to join His kingdom activity through Send Network in our neighborhoods and among the nations.
