Foster Care and Adoption

Multiple times in the Bible, the Lord describes Himself as the Defender of the fatherless. Vulnerable children are suffering all around us. The Church has the opportunity to follow the Lord’s direction, and step into the fray of foster care and adoption.

According to Child Stats, a governmental research site on children, there are three types of adoptions in the U.S.—foster care, domestic private and international. The three types combined make up 1,782,000 adopted children in the U.S. foster-care children comprise 661,000 of those numbers, while domestic private adoptions make up 677,000. There are 444,000 children who come from international adoptions.

James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress….”

Due to the rise of illegal drug and alcohol usage, vulnerable children are suffering all around us. We, as believers, have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ.
