Most pastors will point to a person who was most responsible for shaping their call to ministry and not to a book, method, or class. Some, often unknown, saint took spiritual responsibility for them and lovingly and consistently pointed them to the hope of the gospel.
Next was written to provide a biblical and practical guide for other leaders to intentionally invest in the lives of future leaders in our churches. The Pastoral Epistles provide a guide for the model that Paul established in the lives of Timothy and Titus. This Biblical evidence provides the foundation for an intentional and strategic discipleship plan for developing and training future church leaders, pastors, missionaries, and small group leaders. My hope is that it will remind pastors of the magnitude of their task, the simplicity of the strategy, and the fruitfulness of the process.
