God’s Design

God has a design for our lives, and He cares about absolutely every aspect of our lives. The problem is, we all have the ability to depart from His design. The Bible’s word for that departure from God’s design is, “sin.”

Sin Leads to Brokenness

When we sin, we experience brokenness. And brokenness feels like shame, guilt, regret — something we’ve all experienced at some time in our lives. But when we get to that broken place, we make matters worse by trying to fix it ourselves. We think we can find the fix in a new relationship, a better paying job or more possessions. But here’s the thing about brokenness: While it doesn’t feel good, it does make us realize that we have a need for the kind of life change that we can’t make happen ourselves. The change we need that heals brokenness comes from the “Good News” which is what the word “gospel” means.

The Gospel

The gospel tells the story of Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus never departed from God’s design in any way.  Still, He loved us so much that, though painful, He agreed with God’s design for His life and allowed Himself to be crucified (killed) on a cross to remedy the sins of the world. While Jesus was on that cross, God performed a miracle — He literally rested the sins of the world — your sins and mine — on that cross with Jesus, and Jesus received the punishment from God for our sins.

After he died and was buried, Jesus was raised from the dead three days later. The Bible tells us that God raised Jesus from the dead in order to prove that He had the power to provide us the change we need in our lives — a change that only He can give.

Living a New Life

Here’s where the awareness of being broken becomes helpful to us: Once we find ourselves in brokenness and discover we can’t heal it on our own, we then can run to God’s remedy which is simple: “Repent” of our sins, which means to be genuinely sorry for walking away from God’s design for our lives and to be willing to live life a different way, and then believe the message of the gospel.

When we repent and believe, Jesus comes into our lives, forgives our sins and begins to heal our brokenness. When this happens, God gives us the chance to recover and pursue His design for our lives — and that’s something we can do from wherever we are and whatever place in life we find ourselves.

Jesus has done the work to give us not just a reset to our old lives but an entirely new and fresh existence in Him.

What should I do now?

Now that you have heard this Good News, God wants you to respond to Him. You can talk to Him using words like these:

My life is broken — I recognize it's because of my sin I need you.

I believe Christ came to live, die and was raised from the dead — to rescue me from my sin.

Forgive me. I turn from my selfish ways and put my trust in You.

I know that Jesus is Lord of all, and I will follow him.

The Bible Says

"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Romans 10:13
